Stump grinding hamilton
Serving Hamilton and the surrounding areas stump grinding needs, we’re able to turn that old tree stump into a pile of wood chips in a matter of minutes.
The process for stump grinding is pretty straightforward. We have machines whose sole purpose is to grind the stump quickly and safely. It’s essentially a spinning wheel with teeth that machines away the stump one layer at a time. The operator sits or stands behind a shield and methodically moves the stump grinder back and forth, moving downward about an inch with every pass.
We’ll typically grind the stump a few inches under the surface to ensure the new grass has enough depth for the roots to take hold.
Once the stump has been ground we can either take away the wood chips for a small fee or you can mix them in with the new soil…. That is what most people do.
Now, if the intent is to plant grass where the stump once stood, be sure to remove at least half the wood chips and put a very generous amount of topsoil down and mix well. This will allow the grass seedlings to grow in the topsoil. Many people make the mistake of not putting any new topsoil down and simply try to plant seed on the wood chips. The seeds germinate a grow, but during the first hot day, the grass burns and dies because the roots are not in enough soil.
