Maybe you are used to hiring tree trimming companies to handle your trimming needs. Although it’s not bad to do so, you may actually do some of the pruning yourself but only if you understand what is trimming and the different techniques used in trimming.

First, the definition.

Trimming is the process of removing unwanted parts of a tree. Depending on the size of the trimmed branch, different trimming tools are used. Some manual and others powered machines.

But before you dislocate that branch from the tree, there are some factors that you should consider. These factors define the reason why you want to trim the tree.

3 major reason you should trim a tree are:

-Beauty.
Tree trimming should be done to enhance its aesthetic appearance. Not only to the tree but also to the surrounding areas. Trimming helps you decide which shape the tree will be in, maybe you need it to blend with other shaped trees or flowers, this will also make it possible to reduce its height and thickness.

-Control infections.
On a tree, infections may start from one branch and start spreading to the other parts of the tree. To prevent the whole tree from being infected, you cut-off the infected branch by trimming.

-Increase the health.
Trees’ health is very important. Poor health can be caused by overcrowded branches which prevent adequate circulation of air to the tree. Through trimming the health is enhanced because excess branched are removed providing enough circulation of air.
Crowded branches also tend to form breeding places for tree diseases.

-Safety first.
Trees may grow so tall and spread their branches over houses and other structures. This is dangerous especially when the branches, due to uncontrolled circumstances, fall off the trees. Trimming will eliminate this threat living your house safe.
Additionally, tree branches’ that hinder your vision when driving or doing some other activities that need clear eyesight, should be trimmed.

NOTE that tree trimming along power lines should ONLY be handled by those responsible with the power lines.
After identifying with any of the above reasons, it’s time now to get down to work. But how do you trim a tree? When trimming dead or living branches, follow these 2 tree trimming techniques;

-When the branch being pruned is very long, accomplish the trimming process with three cuts. i.e the first cut should be able to make a notch on the side of the branch’s facing away from the retained branch.

The second cut goes to the crotchet of the branch. While the third and last cuts through the stem to remove the stub.

Final thoughts.
The above tree trimming reasons and techniques will help you do the trimming yourself. If you are not sure of what or where to start the trimming, or if the environments are very dangerous, e.g. the branch to be trimmed is too high on the tree, its advice able to engage the service of a tree trimming company. This company will have the equipment and trained personnel who can handle any kind of trimming no matter the odds involved.

It was extremely helpful to read that tree trimming can be done in order to increase safety within a house property. This is because our neighborhood has been trying to figure out what to do about the large trees that have grown too close to the power lines near our houses. At any moment, these trees can possibly spark and catch fire, so we should definitely look for a tree service to help us trim them safely.
